    Losing Your Medicare Advantage Plan
Medicare Advantage plans, also known as Part C, provide an alternative way to receive Medicare benefits through private insurers. If you lose your Medicare Advantage plan because you move out of the plan’s service area, the plan discontinues coverage, or you disenroll, you have several options:
Return to Original Medicare: You can go back to traditional Medicare Parts A and B. You may want to consider purchasing a Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap) to help cover out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
Enroll in a New Medicare Advantage Plan: Depending on your circumstances and timing, you might be able to enroll in a new Medicare Advantage plan if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
Part D Prescription Drug Plan: If your Medicare Advantage plan included drug coverage and you switch back to Original Medicare, consider enrolling in a standalone Part D prescription drug plan to maintain drug coverage.
Losing Your Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan
If you lose your Medigap coverage—perhaps because of non-payment, the insurer stops offering the plan in your state, or you cancel it—you should act quickly:
Guaranteed Issue Rights: In certain situations, such as losing your Medigap plan due to the insurer discontinuing coverage, you may have guaranteed issue rights that allow you to buy a new Medigap policy without medical underwriting.
Open Enrollment Period: Outside of guaranteed issue rights, you can buy Medigap policies during your initial six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period. Otherwise, you may be subject to medical underwriting and could be denied coverage or charged higher premiums.
Avoid Coverage Gaps: Without Medigap coverage, you might face higher out-of-pocket costs. Evaluate your needs to select suitable coverage options promptly.
Key Considerations
Timeframes Matter: If you lose coverage, acting promptly can prevent gaps in coverage and penalties. Certain enrollment periods are limited.
Review Your Needs: Assess your health care needs, budget, and whether Original Medicare or another Medicare Advantage plan better suits you.
Consult Medicare Resources: For personalized guidance, use official Medicare resources or consult with a licensed insurance agent specializing in Medicare.
Maintaining continuous and adequate Medicare coverage is critical to managing healthcare costs effectively. Understanding your rights and options after losing a Medicare Advantage or Supplement plan helps ensure you remain protected. If you lose your Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement plan, it’s important to understand your options and the steps you need to take to maintain your Medicare coverage.

Turning 65 and What You Need to Know
Most individuals become eligible for Medicare insurance by turning 65. You can enroll in Medicare up to three months before your 65th birthday month. However, your Medicare benefits will begin on the first day of your 65th birth month. If your birthday falls on the 1st of the month, your benefits start one month earlier, on the first day of the month prior to your 65th birth month.
Aside from age, you may also qualify for Medicare if you are permanently disabled, but in this case, there is a two-year waiting period before you become eligible. For people with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease), Medicare eligibility applies without the two-year waiting period. Typically, benefits for ESRD begin after four months of dialysis treatment. For those with ALS, benefits often start as soon as Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits begin.

Waiting to enroll in Medicare or missing important enrollment deadlines can significantly increase your overall costs.
Delays may lead to penalties or postponed coverage, which could leave you exposed to higher out-of-pocket expenses.
It is crucial not to wait to enroll in Medicare unless you have credible coverage through a union, the VA, or if you can remain on your employer’s group plan beyond your 65th birthday. With credible coverage, you are not required to enroll in Medicare immediately and will avoid late enrollment penalties.
Keep in mind, there are exceptions to this general rule. To ensure you understand your specific situation and avoid unnecessary costs, please contact me at 410-921-3700. Prompt action can help you maintain continuous coverage and protect your finances.

Your Part B premium may be higher than the base rate. I can show you how to potentially lower your Medicare Part B premium if you are currently a "high income earner." This is ethical and legal and the SSA allows it.
Medicare Products I'm Licensed To Help You With
Supplement Gap Plans (F, G, N, High Deductible Plans, and Others)
Supplemental plans help cover the costs that Original Medicare leaves behind, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Popular plans include F, G, N, and various high deductible options. Generally, these plans require answering health questions to get approved. However, when you turn 65, you receive a "Guaranteed Issue" period—often referred to as a free pass—where you are automatically approved without health underwriting.
Be aware that there are specific rules about enrollment periods, start dates, and medical underwriting that can impact your options. It's important to review your individual circumstances to find the best plan for your needs.
Advantage Part C Plans (HMO’s, PPO’s, Dual Medicaid & Medicare Plans, Special Needs Plans, and Others)
Medicare Advantage plans provide an alternative to Supplemental Plans and often come at a lower cost. These plans are offered by private companies and usually include HMO, PPO, and specialized options for those with Medicaid or special health needs.
Each county has a variety of Advantage Plans that work with specific doctor networks and pharmacies. Many also offer added benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, and transportation services. These extras make Advantage Plans worth considering as part of your Medicare strategy.
Prescription Drug Rx Plans (PDP Plans or Medicare Part D)
Prescription Drug Plans are usually available statewide and are designed to help cover the cost of medications. Medicare requires you to have drug coverage once you are enrolled, or you may face a financial penalty. Even if you don’t take any medications right now, enrolling in a lower-cost plan is advisable to fulfill Medicare’s Part D requirement and avoid penalties.
For all these Medicare products, understanding your personal healthcare needs and eligibility is key. Discuss your situation to determine which plans and timing work best for you.
